Behind Hampsons
William Hampson
(Billy the Barber)
1925 - 1984
Billy was born at the family's Barber Shop "Hampsons" on Westminster Road, Kirkdale in 1925 to William and Kate. He was one of four brothers Eric, Tom, and Jack with Billy being the youngest.
Billy's father William was a barber, a tradition that ran through generations of the Family even through marriage, his mother Kate's brother was also a well known barber on Scotland Road, Mr George Murray.
Billy mastered his trade as regimental barber during his time in ghe Army, and with his eldest brother Eric they kept the barbering tradition alive at Westminster Road. They eventually opened up a second shop Priory Road in Anfield. Billy and Eric became well known and well respected in the areas with people still remembering having their "ears lowered" by the brothers.
Sadly Billy passes away at the early age of 59, his name and memory lives on here at "Hampsons".
